NEEDS
WHAT DO I REALLY NEED?
Matthew 5:3 . . . God blesses those who realize their need for him, for the Kingdom of Heaven is given to them.
I need God-his love, his presence, his promise of eternal life.
Acts 13:24 . . . Before he came, John the Baptist preached the need for everyone in Israel to turn from sin and turn to God and be baptized.
I need to repent of my sins and turn to God.
Hebrews 7:26 . . . He is the kind of high priest we need because he is holy and blameless, unstained by sin. He has now been set apart from sinners, and he has been given the highest place of honor in heaven.
I need Jesus-his mercy, his salvation, and his forgiveness.
Luke 17:5 . . . One day the apostles said to the Lord, “We need more faith; tell us how to get it.”
Ephesians 6:16 . . . In every battle you will need faith as your shield to stop the fiery arrows aimed at you by Satan.
I need more faith.
Psalm 119:19 . . . I am but a foreigner here on earth; I need the guidance of your commands. Don’t hide them from me!
I need God’s guidance.
James 1:5 . . . If you need wisdom-if you want to know what God wants you to do-ask him, and he will gladly tell you. He will not resent your asking.
I need God’s wisdom.
Hebrews 10:36 . . . Patient endurance is what you need now, so you will continue to do God’s will. Then you will receive all that he has promised.
Colossians 1:11 . . . We also pray that you will be strengthened with his glorious power so that you will have all the patience and endurance you need. May you be filled with joy.
I need patient endurance to continue to do God’s will.
Hebrews 4:16 . . . Let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it.
2 Corinthians 12:9 . . . Each time he said, “My gracious favor is all you need. My power works best in your weakness.” So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may work through me.
I need God’s mercy and grace in times of weakness, or when I fail him.
Psalm 138:3 . . . When I pray, you answer me; you encourage me by giving me the strength I need.
Philippians 4:13 . . . I can do everything with the help of Christ who gives me the strength I need.
I need God’s strength to do what I can’t do on my own.
Luke 18:1 . . . One day Jesus told his disciples a story to illustrate their need for constant prayer and to show them that they must never give up.
I need prayer to keep me in constant communication with God.
Psalm 119:75 . . . I know, O Lord, that your decisions are fair; you disciplined me because I needed it.
I need the Lord’s discipline to keep me following his ways.
Romans 12:5 . . . We are all parts of his one body, and each of us has different work to do. And since we are all one body in Christ, we belong to each other, and each of us needs all the others.
I need other Christians, encouraging me and serving with me.
Psalm 145:15 . . . All eyes look to you for help; you give them their food as they need it.
I need food and other provisions of life.
HOW DO I KEEP CLEAR DISTINCTIONS BETWEEN NEEDS AND WANTS?
1 Timothy 6:8 . . . If we have enough food and clothing, let us be content.
Philippians 4:11-12 . . . Not that I was ever in need, for I have learned how to get along happily whether I have much or little.
Hebrews 13:5 . . . Stay away from the love of money; be satisfied with what you have. For God has said, “I will never fail you. I will never forsake you.”
Proverbs 30:8 . . . First, help me never to tell a lie. Second, give me neither poverty nor riches! Give me just enough to satisfy my needs.
Matthew 6:8, 32 . . . Don’t be like them, because your Father knows exactly what you need even before you ask him!
Psalm 34:9 . . . Let the Lord’s people show him reverence, for those who honor him will have all they need.
Psalm 23:1 . . . The Lord is my shepherd; I have everything I need.
When our needs are supplied, we are content. But we are never content with wants or desires because we always want more.
ON WHOM SHOULD I DEPEND TO MEET MY NEEDS?
Romans 5:6 . . . When we were utterly helpless, Christ came at just the right time and died for us sinners.
2 Peter 1:3 . . . As we know Jesus better, his divine power gives us everything we need for living a godly life. He has called us to receive his own glory and goodness!
Matthew 6:33 . . . He will give you all you need from day to day if you live for him and make the Kingdom of God your primary concern.
2 Corinthians 9:8 . . . God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others.
Having an eternal perspective shows you that what you really need is what God supplies in great abundance.
PROMISE FROM GOD:
Philippians 4:19 . . . This same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.
