STUDY ONE: GOD'S WORD.

GOD'S WORD

General Introduction
Hebrews 4:12 says, "For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to the dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart." This passage captures the key areas of human interaction, weather personally or interpersonally. As the study will show, God's word when understood and applied has the capacity in bringing wholeness in the life of adults, the family, the church and the community.

Aim:To stress the significance of God's word in the life of an adult

Introduction
If you have ever flown in an airplane or traveled in a ship you may not have understood how the pilot or sailor was navigating his way to take you to your destination. there is a small instrument called a compass that helps pilots or Sailors to know their direction without the compass it is impossible to arrive at a destination. God's word, like a compass is very significant in given direction to the life of an adult or believers in general. This is what this lesson will be stressing.

Discussion Questions:
1. Of what significance is God's word in the life of an adult than that of a child?

2. What does it mean for God's Word to test more than horny in the life of a believer? Psalm 119:103

3. At what point does the word of God taste more than horny in the life of an adult? Job 23:12

4. How does an adult make God's word taste more than horny in his life? Joshua 1:8 Psalm 119:102

5. Since God's word is a light to an adult's path, why do many stumble? Psalm 119:105

Conclusion
The place of the word of God in the life of an adult can never be overemphasized. knowing how relevant the word of God is, helps you to remain consistent in God's presence until it speaks to you and makes a difference. it is in doing this, that the word can serve as lamp and light in the path of an adult and give him direction each day of his life.

Introduction
Loren Cunningham states in one of his books that there is no country too poor, too filled with crime, too divided by war or too dark to be changed. In God's word are basic principles that can solve every problem we face in the world it is evident today that every community that had the privilege of receiving Christian missionaries stands out among others in terms of its spiritual, social, educational and economic advantages this lesson buttresses the relevance of God's Word to the community

1. Mention some communities you know that stood out as a result of the impact of God's Word
2. What happens when the Word of God is read and explained to the understanding of a community? Nehemiah 8:8-9
3. What becomes of our communities when political, traditional, and religious leaders are exposed to God's word and I'm committed to passing it on in the community? Nehemiah 8:9

Conclusion
Most often when we think of community development, the word of God is not considered as a part of the process. we think of security through police and vigilante. We think of empowerment initiative such as skills acquisition, accessing loans and grants etc. Today's lesson however, has highlighted the relevance of God's Word in building the community spiritually, socially and economically. The lesson has also indicated how leaders both spiritual, political and traditional can work together towards the good of their community.

General Introduction
A disciple is simply an ardent follower of a course or a person. a disciple-maker is not necessarily a pastor but one who is involved in making disciples. all disciple-makers have at a point been discipled. it is a deliberate and conscious effort of becoming one who can raise another believer to be fully matured in Christ. Jesus had to sanctify Himself and also learned obedience through subjecting Himself to suffering. (John 17:19; Hebrews 5:8). The challenge in the body of Christ today is that we lack disciplers who can raise others to be matured in Christ. we will learn more about this in the study comprising of this lessons: a disciple-maker, the marks of a disciple-maker, the devotional life of a disciple- maker, and the cost of discipleship.

Aim: To define the person of a disciple-maker

Introduction
A disciple-maker is a matured Christian, who is involved in the nurturing of young believers, A disciple-maker must not necessarily be a pastor, church elder or a special person. He is one who is driven by the Lord's command to ensure that Disciples are made. There is a lack of Disciple-makers both in our churches and in the public space. This lesson will seek to define disciple-makers and sensitize the church on the need to have them.

1. How can we liken a disciple-maker in the context of a master and an apprentice?

2. What does Paul mean when he says, "Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ?" 1 Corinthians 11:1

3. What qualifies a believer to become a disciple-maker? 2 Timothy 2:1-2

Conclusion
The heartbeat of our Lord Jesus Christ it's for disciple-makers to be at the forefront in church growth. unfortunately, disciple-makers are scarce in the contemporary church. Disciple-makers must have good working relationship with Christ and constantly spend their energy on reliable members who can in turn disciple others

Aim: To emphasize the distinctiveness of the life of a disciple-maker

Introduction
The marks of a disciple maker are not hidden. the could be spiritual and/or physical. a disciple maker does not need to struggle to show this marks as they are part and parcel of his life. This lesson will emphasize the distinctive marks of a disciple-maker following the example of Jesus, Paul and Barnabas.

1. When you had the topic, "The marks of a Disciple-maker," what came to your mind?

2. From the life of Christ, identify marks of a disciple-maker, Mark 1:35; John 13:4-5, 14-15, 17:19

Conclusion
This lesson have challenged us on the need to go back to the scriptures, understand it deep enough to identify the marks of a disciple-maker. Jesus the greatest disciple-maker demonstrated these qualities during his ministry. Paul and Barnabas followed in the same pattern of Jesus. Do you bear the marks of a disciple-maker

Lesson 3: The devotional life of a disciple maker

Topic: The Devotional Life of a Disciple-maker
Text: Psalm 42:1; Mark 1:35 John 3:1-12
Aim: To highlight the vertical relationship of a disciple- maker as it relates to his ministry

Introduction
Discipleship as a ministry is relational in nature. The disciple-maker relates with his disciple closely to make the required impact. However, the disciple-maker also needs to relate with his source of grace and strength to be able to present himself as a mentor to his disciple. This is made possible through the quality of time and relationship that the disciple-maker has with God through his personal devotion. What he learns in his time with God should move from head knowledge to his heart. then move his hands to act. Where he encounters any difficulty, he can access help. these are the full "H" s in growing to know God through his Word.

Discussion Questions:
1. What does it mean for the Word of God to move from head to heart, hands and help?

2. Understanding the Bible from the level of head acknowledge. How crucial is it for a disciple-maker to know what the Bible says and means? John 3:1-12; Acts 8:25-40

3. Understanding the Bible from the level of heart knowledge. with what attitude should a disciple-maker approach the Word of God? Psalms 42:1; Acts 17:11

4. Understanding the Bible from the level of hands knowledge. how important is it for the Word of God to go beyond the level of the head and heart of a disciple-maker? Luke 11:1-4; Mark 1:35

5. Understanding the Bible from the level of help. How can a disciple-maker discern a means of help when faced with a particular challenge to apply God's Word? Acts 8:30-35

Conclusion
A disciple-maker's relationship with God becomes stronger when devoting quality time to read the Bible, understand what it says and means, He desires to do what the passage teaches and opens up to another believer for accountability in areas of spiritual needs.

Text: Matthew 10:36-42
Aim: to buttress the cause of disciple-making

Introduction
A story is told of a missionary serving in an African country among prostitutes. She was so committed to making sure that her converts were well looked after that they eventually moved in to live with her. She provided for all the prostitutes but some were stealing from her. She was broke at a point that feeding became a problem. Her father visited her from the United States and was heartbroken to notice how his daughter was living in the name of making disciples. There is a cost to discipleship. This is what this lesson will be stressing.

Discussion Questions:
1. What will be your reaction if you are asked to let go of the thing or person you cherish most?

2. What price is a disciple-maker expected to pay for his commitment to Christ in the light of Matthew 10:37?

3. Discuss what it means to take up one's cross, Matthew 10:38

4. What is the implication of Matthew 10:39 in Disciple-making?

5. What are the benefits of disciple-making Matthew 10:40-42,19:28-29

Conclusion
C.T. studd, a missionary who faithfully serve God in China, India and Africa had the following motto: "If Jesus Christ be God and died for me, then no sacrifice can be too great for me to make for Him." Discipleship is costly in the sense that there is a price to be paid. The price is carrying one's cross. this can lead to losing one's life. sometimes there are immediate and visible benefits for discipleship and sometimes not so obvious.

General Introduction
The family unit is complex and therefore needs attention to enable it fulfill God's purpose. God's intention is not for the family institution to be without the sense of direction. He has provided structures from scriptures with which the family should be nurtured and guided. It is expected that every family pays keen attention to these scriptural provisions to enable it fulfill its intended purposes. On this note, this study will focus on:
The distinctiveness of a Christian family in the society, the headship of Christ in the family, the rejection of the headship of Christ in the family and the headship of man in the family. Hopefully, these lessons will go a long way in helping families have the right biblical perspective.

Lesson 1: The distinctiveness of a Christian family in the society.

Aim: To Reiterate the place of the Christian Family in being light in the Society

Introduction
The society today seems to be lost as to what the right standard of moral behaviour or leaving Should be. Many have accepted practices that are alien to the Bible. As a result of this attitudes, there is confusion in representing Christ in a world such as ours. in the light of this, today's lesson seeks to assert the distinctive traits of the Christian family, which should be the standard of acceptable moral living.

Discussion Questions:
1. Share any distinctive attribute that attracts you to a given family.

2. How can a Christian family take a right stand against the abnormalities going on in the society?

3. What needs to be in place for serving the Lord to be desirable in a family. Joshua 24:15

Conclusion
The need for the Christian family to be light In our Time cannot be overstated. It is required that in championing godly values, which makes a family distinct, deliberate major should be taken as seen in the family of Joshua and that of Timothy.

Aim: to Emphasize the Authority of Christ in the Family

Introduction
It is said that there cannot be two captains in one ship. The same applies to headship in the family. Many problems have emerged in families where no proper definition and understanding of the role(s) have been accepted. This is more so, when the headship role of the Lord Jesus is either not understood or accepted. As we see in Paul's teaching, Christ exercises headship over the family that is Christian.

Discussion Questions:
1. What are the orientations that often cloud our perception of headship in the family?

2. How many "heads" are mentioned in 1 Corinthians 11:3?

3. What is the implication of Christ being the head over that man? 1 Corinthians 11:3

4. What does it mean that God subjected all things under the headship of Christ? Ephesians 1:22; Colossians 1:15-18

5. Why is it difficult for people to submit to headship?

Conclusion
Headship in the family is not something that should be determined by our personal/private opinion, cultural orientation or current trends in the society. God has a vision for each family that bears His name, in His infinite wisdom, He has appointed Christ to be the head of everything including the family. The contentions, confusions and controversies that often destabilize the family can be controlled and curtailed when families intentionally accept the headship of Christ as taught in the Holy scriptures.

Aim: To Stress the consequence(s) of Rejecting the Authority of Christ in the Family

Introduction
The headship of Christ in the family is not an option to be explored, it is a Divine command that must be obeyed. Any family that rejects the headship of Christ, does so at their peril. There are different ways that people may reject the headship of Christ in the family. It could be done quietly or publicly. It could be by embracing negative and ungodly values. In today's lesson we shall examine the plight that befell the family that quietly rejected the headship of Christ and the consequences that followed.

1.What are the possible indicators of a family that rejects the headship of Christ?

2. How did the family of Ananias reject the headship of Christ? Acts 5:1-4,9

3. What possible factors make families to reject the headship of Christ? Acts 4:36-37 cf Acts 5:1-2

4. What are some consequences of rejecting the headship of Christ? Acts 5:5-10

5. How can you as family avoid falling into the sin of Ananias and Sapphira?

Conclusion
It is clear from the Word of God that the rejection of the headship of Christ comes with a lot of negative consequences. In the Old testament as well as our contemporary times, we have seen families wiped out and properties destroyed because the authority of Christ is pushed to the background. If we must save our families and future generations from this negative consequences, the headship of Christ must be valued and upheld.

Lesson 4: Headship of man in the family.

Aim: To give a Biblical explanation of the Headship of Man in the Family.

Introduction
The headship of man in the family is something that is being highly contested nowadays in different quarters. There are those who interpret the headship of man in the family as a quest to be domineering and an imposition of a patriarchal cultural practice geared towards controlling women. Some interpret it as a push for the promotion of inequality in the society; others simply see the headship of man in the family as a cultural practice that is not applicable to every culture in the world. However, the Bible teaches that it is a divine order from creation as we will learn from this lesson.

1. Why do you think God made man as head of the family?

2. Explain the biblical position on how man is to be the head of the wife, Ephesians 5:23

3. What is the headship role of the man towards his wife and children? Genesis 18:19; Colossians 3:19,21

5. What happens to the Headship of a man over his family where he is deliberately not playing his role?

Conclusion
They headship of man in the family has been largely contested in our society. This is an error that must be corrected. For any man to properly function in his headship role in the family, he must not subscribe to the dictates of culture neither should he depend solely on his instinct. Today's story has been able to proffer biblical solutions to this challenge.

General Introduction

Christian identity is a subject that is very broad, it cannot be mistaken wherever it is portrayed. For every genuine follower of Christ there is an identity. This identity is christlikeness that is expected to be demonstrated when it is favorable or not. This study explains what Christian identity is and how it is displayed in different areas of life.

Lesson 1: what is Christian identity?

Text: Matthew 16:13-16; Acts 11:25-26

Aim: To emphasize the consciousness of being like Christ

Introduction

The word identity is defined as the fact of being who or what a person or thing is. the Bible affirms this when it says in Matthew 7:16 "by their fruit you will recognize them" to infer that even a tree is known by the fruit it bears. In other words, a tree finds its identity in the fruit it bears. This concept flows well with the idea of how believers find their identity. They are known as "Christians" when and if they live like Christ. This is what this lesson will be emphasizing.

Discussion Questions:

Why is it difficult to answer the question, "who are you?"Why did Jesus ask his disciples who people thought He was, and not what they thought He was? Matthew 16:13-15What do you think must have informed the response of the people as well as the response of Peter about Jesus? What should that teach us about the core of our identity? Matthew 16:14-16How could the naming of the disciples "Christians" a possible encouragement to them? Acts 11:25-26In what way could the one-year ministry of Barnabas and Saul (Paul) possibly result in their "naming" as Christian? Act 11:25

Conclusion

The question of identity is intriguing because it addresses both our Private and public Life; what people say about us and who we truly are. We might attempt running away from it, but it is hard to successfully hide from it. Jesus did not shy away from addressing it and the disciples in Antioch could also not hide it. What do you say about yourself and what do others say about you?

Aim: To emphasize Christian identity in the family

Introduction

There is no one-size-fits-all when it comes to understanding the Christian identity in the family. This is because Christian identity in the family is multifaceted. Right from Bible times, we see examples of how godly parents played their part in raising godly family but the result turned negative. There are also instances where parents live godly lives, produce children that are also godly. There are situations were responsible children came out from irresponsible homes. Our lesson today will emphasize the subject from this different angles.

Conclusion

Cultivating a Christian identity in the family is the responsibility of every child of God. Believers who are passionate about maintaining such identity must make the most of their background. This background could be either positive or negative. When it is all said and done, there should be no excuse for Christ not being represented in the family.

Text: Colossians 3:22-24, 4:1; Titus 3:1-2, 9, 14

Aim: To portray Christlikeness in our workplace

Introduction

The Bible says that he who does not work should not eat (2 Thessalonians 3:10). This suggests the need for every worker to be hardworking and productive. This expectation has not been met in most instances. Many who are called Christians are not found to be honest and committed to work. This disposition is a dent on their testimony and that of the church. This study is a wake-up call for Christians to portray Christ in their workplaces.

This does not only stop at direct in assault but Christians are also being persecuted in their workplaces and Schools. The political space is also being overtaken by gross inequalities. Sadly, the story above if the true reflection of the reality in the body of Christ today. There is disconnectedness, disunity, unfriendliness etc. within the body of Christ. Today's lesson intends to educate believers on the significance of building godly relationship within the body of Christ.

He fails to seek the guidance of the Holy Spirit when making decisions. However, as his retirement draws near his need for the guidance of the Holy Spirit becomes obvious because he is filled with anxiety wondering what to do. He is being strained by the lack of cooperation from his church elders, who have ganged up against him feeling that he is preventing them from playing active roles in the church. It is not the degree of one's benevolence, physical lack or riches that determines his eternal destiny, but the decision and relationship with God through Jesus Christ. Jesus said: "blessed are the poor in spirit (those who realize their need of God) for theirs is the Kingdom of heaven" (Matt. 5: 3). The decision of where to spend eternity begins with a realization of one's need or God. As we reflect on this study, the question we must all answer is, "have I realized my need of God? And do I have a relationship with Him?"
